Stonepaper is where a Hub thinks. Beenius is where it tries. The Material Station is what feeds them both, and it is the one part nobody delivers: it appears on its own, as soon as a Hub starts noticing that a bottle cap is a wheel.
Every discovery becomes the key to the next, the combinations multiply, and learning stops being a line you walk and becomes a chain reaction you set off.
The permaculture in this: produce no waste. The workshop closes its own loop, so it only ever gets richer.
Paper made of stone. The ink sits on the surface rather than in the sheet, so a wet cloth takes it off and the sheet is new. It is waterproof and hard to tear, which means the thinking can follow the learning outside, into rain, soil and garden.
One surface at every scale: a card that fits in one hand for a single thought, a sheet for the lap, a surface the size of the table where a group thinks in one shared picture, a sheet that fills a wall. Water is the only glue it needs, so any window or smooth wall becomes one too.
On a surface that forgives everything, a mistake stops being a flaw and becomes the step before the better line.
The fear of a wrong line, and with it the reason most people never start.
Easiest: thermo-erasable pens, for example the Pilot Frixion range. They lift with very little moisture, and you can buy them in ordinary shops.
Brightest: ordinary water based felt tips. They hold better and are visible from the back of a room, and they replace whiteboard markers, which are worse for you and for the air. Clean these the way you would clean a plate: the rough side of a sponge and more water. For older marks, a few months old, vinegar or a household cleaner does it.
Stays on: ballpoint and pencil. Pencil can be rubbed out, and it also writes underwater, which is a strange and useful thing.
Permanent on purpose: whiteboard markers and permanent markers both become permanent on stonepaper. That is a feature. Draw a grid, a calendar or a colour code once and write into it for years with something erasable.
A damp cloth for fresh marks. A sponge and more water for felt tip. Vinegar or a normal cleaning product for anything stubborn or old. If a faint shadow stays behind after a wipe, it scrubs away.
It does not tear, it forgives being pressed on hard, and a spilled drink does nothing to it at all.

Warm the wax in your hand, press in a bamboo stick, and the joint holds. Two seconds. No tools, no glue, no drying time, no waiting for anything to set. Structures grow as fast as you can think them, come apart just as fast, and grow again somewhere else.
The sticks are cut to 5, 8, 13 and 21 centimetres, the Fibonacci numbers, so the lengths combine the way the sequence itself unfolds. Everything else comes from the room: bottle caps, straws, offcuts, a leaf.
And it need not be bought. The recipe is open, it always was, and the wax can be made on any stove.
Waiting. Glue needs drying time, and drying time is when a group starts discussing whether the idea was any good in the first place.
Our current Berlin blend: 500 g pure beeswax, 30 g lanolin, 20 g tree resin, 60 g kaolin.
Melt the lanolin and the resin together in a water bath first, then add the beeswax, slowly. Stir, take it off the heat, and work in the kaolin a little at a time. Pour it onto baking paper with the edges turned up, and let it cool.
This is a starting point rather than a standard. Adapt it to your region with what is at hand, keep it natural, and tell us if you find something better.

The geometry that makes a model stand on a table is the same geometry that makes a structure stand in a garden. So a Beenius model at shoebox scale is a working blueprint: its proportions and its joints scale straight up.

We have done this with palm branches and plastic bottles on the Sinai and with bamboo and metal connectors in Uganda, where a dome skeleton went up in one afternoon and none of us had built one before.

The third part costs nothing: a shelf, a box, a corner where the everyday collects. Caps, corks, offcuts, branches, dye plants, whatever the neighbourhood brings. It turns leftovers into building parts and colours, and it grows richer the more hands feed it.
It is also training for the rarest skill in the room: seeing what things could be, instead of what they are called. One person's leftover is the next person's hinge.
You do not order this one. You start it. Put out a box, tell three people what it is for, and watch it fill.
The category of rubbish, which turns out to be a habit rather than a property of anything.
Stonepaper is roughly 60 percent finely ground limestone, a residue that falls out of quarrying in enormous quantities and is otherwise treated as waste. The remaining 40 percent is HDPE, which binds the dust and makes the sheet waterproof and extremely durable.
No tree is felled for it and no process water is used. Its production runs dry: stone dust and polymer are heated, mixed and rolled into sheets, with no cooking, no bleaching and no energy intensive drying, which is most of what conventional paper production actually consists of.
Then the honest part. It contains fossil plastic, and today it is made in Asia and shipped into Europe. Used once, it would be a poor idea. It was never meant to be used once, and that is the entire point: one sheet, rewritten across years, replacing hundreds.
Which is worth saying precisely, because plastic has become one word for two very different things. A film wrapped around a cucumber exists for an afternoon and then for centuries. The same polymer, bound with stone into a sheet that a school writes on for a decade, is doing the opposite job: it is the reason the sheet survives being wiped ten thousand times. The problem with plastic was never the molecule. It was the single use.
Where it is going matters more than where it is. Our partners in the Netherlands are working on replacing the plastic binder with a binder made from algae. If that works, the material stops being merely sustainable: a sheet on a compost heap would then hold water like a sponge, feed soil life, and let the limestone sweeten tired, acidic ground.
And the direction we care about most is local production. Limestone dust exists nearly everywhere. A material that can be made where it is used is a different thing from a material that has to be shipped, and that is the version we are working toward.
It is not paper and it does not belong in paper recycling, where it contaminates the stream. In Germany it goes in the yellow bag with plastics. Elsewhere, it belongs wherever mixed plastics go.
There is a real problem there, and it is worth naming: the infrared scanners in sorting plants have to be set up to recognise the material, and where they are not, it goes to incineration. Fixing that is not something a Hub can do, but knowing it is better than not.
A cleaner idea exists: a return system, where used sheets come back and go on as a single clean mixture of stone and polymer, which industry can melt and reuse. We would like to help build that.

A Regeneration Hub does not have a minimum size. It has a minimum set: something to think on, something to build with, and something to build from. That is a whole Hub. Everything larger is the same three things with more people around them.
You do not need land, a building, a budget or permission. What you need fits on a kitchen table, and the loop is already closed there: draw it, build it, take it apart, draw it better.
And the first thing a Hub regenerates is not a patch of ground. It is the way you see. A drawer of caps stops being clutter and becomes components. A mown lawn stops being finished and becomes potential.
The tools are the way in, and everything else in a Hub reaches through them.
